Scuba medical exams

As a commercial diver, your health and fitness are critical for working in high-pressure underwater environments.

Scuba medicals are designed to assess your fitness for diving. Our medicals check your physical health, vision, hearing and overall well-being to help ensure your safety while underwater.

Your in-clinic scuba medical includes:

Medical history review

Physical
examination

Eye
examination

Lung function test
(spirometry)

ECG

Urine test

Urine test for protein, blood and sugar. Make sure to be well hydrated.

Ear, sinus and throat evaluation

To check for issues that could affect equalization or cause barotrauma.

Blood specimen

At the hospital before your medical (form provided), or in-office.

Divers aged 40 and over may require a cardiac stress test and X-ray, at Dr. Anderson’s discretion.

A hearing test is required before your medical. You must pay for this test yourself.

After your medical assessment

Once your medical is complete and all test results are normal, we’ll issue a formal certificate confirming your fitness to dive.

How often do I need a commercial diver medical?

Every 2 years up to the age of 39, and annually from age 40 onwards, according to CSA standards.

Most assessments are completed in 60–90 minutes. Please arrive 15 minutes early.
