A Marine Medical Certificate is required for anyone working on a commercial vessel in Canada. This certification proves that you meet the medical and physical standards set by Transport Canada to do your job safely and effectively.

Your in-clinic marine medical includes:
Medical history review
Physical
examination

Urine test
Urine test for protein, blood and sugar. Make sure to be well hydrated.

How to prepare for your exam
Bring to your appointment:
- Government-issued photo ID
- Glasses / contact lenses (if applicable)
- Candidate Document Number (CDN)
You will also need:
- List of current medications from your pharmacy
- Diabetics: Recent bloodwork for the last 6 months and optometrist report
- Letters from specialists seen in the last 3 years (if applicable)

We accept cash, debit and credit. E-transfers are not available.
After your medical assessment
Once your medical is complete, Dr. Anderson will provide a Provisional Marine Medical Certificate, valid for up to six months, and submit your medical report to Transport Canada. Transport Canada will issue your final Marine Medical Certificate once approved.
Certificate Status Enquiries
Once your medical has been submitted, all status and approval enquiries must be directed to Transport Canada. Dr. Anderson is not notified when your final certificate is approved or issued.
Please monitor your email and other correspondence from Transport Canada, as they may contact you directly if additional medical information is required.

Additional Information Requests
If Transport Canada requests additional medical information following your assessment, a fee of $125.00 + HST will apply for our clinic to gather, review and submit the requested information to Transport Canada on your behalf.

How long does it take to process my Marine Medical Certification?

- Up to five years for domestic voyages.
- Up to two years for international voyages
