An aviation medical is required for pilots and air traffic controllers to meet Transport Canada’s health and fitness standards. This assessment is needed to get or renew an Aviation Medical Certificate.

Your in-clinic aviation medical includes:
Medical history review
Physical examination
Eye examination
Urine test
Urine test for protein, blood and sugar. Make sure to be well hydrated.
ECG
ECG (required every 2 years for ages 30–40, and annually for ages 40+).
If you’re applying for the FIRST TIME or are 55+, a hearing test is required before your medical. You must pay for this test yourself.

How to prepare for your exam
Before your appointment:
- Hearing test (outside clinic)
Bring to your appointment:
- Government-issued photo ID
- Aviation permit number
- Aviation document booklet
- Glasses / contact lenses (if applicable)
- Copy of hearing test (if needed)
You will also need:
- List of current medications from your pharmacy
- Diabetics: Recent bloodwork for the last 6 months and optometrist report
- Letters from specialists seen in the last 3 years (if applicable)

After your medical assessment
Once your exam is done, we’ll send your completed medical report to Transport Canada. You will receive your Aviation Medical Certificate from Transport Canada when it is approved.
