How to prepare for your exam
Bring to your appointment:
- Government-issued photo ID
- Glasses / contact lenses (if applicable)
- Candidate Document Number (CDN)
You will also need:
- List of current medications from your pharmacy
- Diabetics: Recent bloodwork for the last 6 months and optometrist report
- Letters from specialists seen in the last 3 years (if applicable)

After your medical assessment
Once you complete your exam, we’ll provide a Provisional Marine Medical Certificate, valid for up to six months. We’ll also send your results to Transport Canada, which will issue the final certificate upon approval.

- Up to five years for domestic voyages.
- Up to two years for international voyages
